Women Who Inspire Oranje - Taylor Martin-Co president AADC and She Creates

Taylor Martin
Creative Industries Young Gun

Melinda was one of the first females working in the creative industries approached to be a She Creates Ambassador. Taylor Martin thinks “Melinda is somewhat of a unicorn (unfortunately!), given she’s a Creative Director + a woman + a business owner. Obviously she’s a rockstar.” A compliment we’ll happily wear.

During work hours, Taylor is the Studio Manager at Simple, overseeing the team, the studio and the people and projects within it. When the sun goes down, Taylor is Co-President of the Adelaide Advertising and Design Club (AADC) — the peak industry body for South Australia’s advertising and design community.

She’s sat on the Club’s Executive Committee for the last 4 years, playing an integral role in bringing a number of initiatives and events to life, all for the betterment of the industry and those within it. ‘She Creates’, is one of those.

The AADC recognised the need to address a number of issues pertaining to women in our industry, and as such, four women already involved within the Club decided to take that conversation and turn it into a reality. Together, they brought ‘She Creates’ to life. Taylor is a driving force and Co-President.

She Creates exists to inspire, promote and represent the women who make up our industry. Through a series of events over the last three years, She Creates has built a strong following, and in turn a strong community.

Taylor gives up her lunchtimes, nights and weekends to create something special and support others in a space where it’s desperately needed. She sees the magic in it all “when women are given a platform to share their stories and experiences with other women. Women that more often than not, haven’t ever been given a platform to do so.”

Melinda and Taylor are captured here in front of one of iconic artist, Peter Drew’s ‘Mugshot’ series. The poster is of 16yr old Dorothy Eleanor Craddock, who was issued a good behaviour bond of 18 months for 2 charges of ‘false pretences’. You can see her rebellious spirit and her eyes suggest she holds authority in contempt. It’s that fiery spirit that Taylor and Melinda share too.
